I've buyed an HP 5342A to cannibalize the 001 and 011 options (High Stability Reference and HPIB).
Was sold as not working and "for parts", the malfunction were due the hard hits of the bottom chassis that was that deformed that were touching the motherboard. Once chassis was removed the instrument has beginned to work correctly.
At this point i've beginned to think to recover the instrument doing a best efford fix to the chassis and repairing the more critical problem: the keyboard.
For the first part of the fix i've used the old and always working hammer and with 15-20 minutes i've reached an acceptable repair.
For the keyboard instead i've beginned to search applicable components on the net and my final choice was for the following products from RS:
Switch 479-1463
Switch Cap 682-1099 (trying to adapt to the switches)
Swiches were immediatly avaiable, not the same is for the Caps to adapt, i've to wait some weeks until they becomes on stock..
I've adapted the switch terminals to go on the original contacts, and i've placed the switches taking the holes and the tracks as reference, for the button illumination i've choosed to take out the led contacs with wires and use some SMD LED..
This is the result, i'm waiting the caps to finish the Estetic part
